Sobre a peça.

Esta peça nasce do encontro entre a matéria-prima resgatada e a inspiração na natureza que nos rodeia. Criada por Miguel Martins, esta escultura representa a pega-azul, ave elegante e de plumagem vibrante que habita as paisagens do Algarve.

A escolha desta ave não é por acaso. A pega-azul, além da sua beleza ímpar, tem uma presença marcante na Quinta do Lago e é uma das aves habitués nos jardins das moradias Ancão Gardens. Voa entre os pinhais e as zonas ajardinadas, exibindo as suas penas azul-turquesa e chamando a atenção pelo seu comportamento ágil e curioso. Este simbolismo encaixa-se na abordagem artística de Miguel, que transforma elementos esquecidos em novas formas de expressão.

Feita a partir de madeira reutilizada e metais recuperados, a peça ganha forma através de um processo artesanal que envolve corte, colagem e montagem de diferentes materiais, preservando as suas texturas e histórias. A criação em ferro é da autoria de Tó Quintas, artista farense especializado em trabalhar este material. O equilíbrio entre tradição e inovação, característico do trabalho de Miguel, reflete-se na construção meticulosa desta escultura, onde cada detalhe é pensado para captar a essência da pega-azul – a leveza, o movimento e a intensidade das suas cores.

Sobre o artista.

Miguel Martins trabalha a partir da exploração de materiais antigos, muitas vezes considerados descartáveis, para criar esculturas e assemblagens que contam histórias. A madeira, o ferro e o azulejo são alguns dos elementos que o artista resgata e reinventa, dando-lhes um novo propósito. O seu processo é intuitivo e experimental, respeitando a matéria e as suas imperfeições, e trazendo à tona memórias que se entrelaçam com a contemporaneidade.

Artista plástico multifacetado, Miguel sempre foi movido pela curiosidade por novos materiais e formas de expressão. Nos últimos anos, consolidou a sua carreira com um foco especial em madeira antiga, assemblagem e escultura. A sua busca incessante por novas abordagens e contrastes reflete-se no seu trabalho, onde reinterpreta o património cultural português, dando nova vida a elementos que de outra forma seriam descartados. Com um espírito autodidata, construiu o seu percurso através da experimentação, errando, aprendendo e persistindo. Atualmente, reside em Faro e continua a criar peças de pequena, média e larga escala no Estúdio Onze.

About the art.

This piece is made from reused raw materials and inspired by the nature that surrounds us. Created by Miguel Martins, this sculpture represents the blue-winged magpie, an elegant bird with vibrant plumage that inhabits the landscapes of the Algarve.

The choice of this bird is not by chance. The Iberian magpie, in addition to its unique beauty, has a notable presence in Quinta do Lago and is one of the most common birds in the area of Ancão Gardens villas. It flies between pine forests and garden areas, displaying its turquoise feathers and attracting attention with its agile and curious behaviour. The iron support piece was created by Tó Quintas, a talented artist from Faro known for his expertise in working with this material. Its symbolism perfectly aligns with Miguel’s artistic vision, which reimagines forgotten elements and transforms them into innovative forms of expression.

Made from reused wood and recovered metals, the piece takes shape through an artisanal process that involves cutting, gluing and assembling different kind of materials, preserving their textures and stories. The balance between tradition and innovation, characteristic of Miguel’s work, is reflected in the meticulous construction of this sculpture, where every detail is designed to capture the essence of the Iberian magpie – the lightness, movement and intensity of its colours.

About the artist.

Miguel Martins’s work revolves around the exploration of recovered materials, often seen as disposable, to create sculptures and assemblages that tell stories. Wood, iron, and tiles are just a few of the elements he rescues and reinvents, giving them new purpose. His approach is both intuitive and experimental, honoring the material’s inherent imperfections while uncovering memories that bridge the past and the present.

A multifaceted visual artist, Miguel has always been driven by curiosity for new materials and forms of expression. In recent years, he has consolidated his career with a special focus on ancient wood, assembly and sculpture. His incessant search for new approaches and contrasts is reflected in his work, where he reinterprets Portuguese cultural heritage, giving new life to elements that would otherwise be discarded. With a self-taught spirit, he built his path through experimentation, making mistakes, learning and persisting. Currently, he lives in Faro and continues to create small, medium and large-scale pieces at Estúdio Onze.
